Roadmap to Starting a Trade Association

WIN publishes a guide to help independent music companies launch their own trade associations.

This resource offers guidance to independent music companies interested in creating new trade associations.

It provides steps to consider and examples from WIN member associations around the world.

WIN has published a guide available in three languages (English, Spanish and French) to aid independent music companies interested in starting new trade associations. One of our main priorities is developing the global independent network by fostering the creation of associative structures and regional alliances in markets without current representation within the organization. The Roadmap to Starting a Trade Association allows us to streamline the ongoing assistance provided to companies in these territories, maximizing our efforts to expand the network.

Trade associations contribute to the development and structuring of the music sector, raising awareness of the role of independent record producers and distributors. They are built to share knowledge and develop best practices, provide opportunities for members, help them network and export, voice their views and advocate for their interests. However, starting an association can be challenging.

The Roadmap to Starting a Trade Association offers practical guidance, including a list of steps companies should consider before embarking on the project. It provides helpful information, tips and real examples from WIN member associations around the world. The guide will also serve as a template for other activities hosted by WIN to promote the creation of new associations, such as online webinars and face-to-face workshops.
