As we celebrate Global Diversity Awareness Month, WIN presents its Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Spotlight. This new resource highlights the extensive EDI work carried out by the independent music trade associations around the world. It comprises a wide range of endeavors, including awards, support programs, guidelines, charters, and other innovative projects that are making a positive difference and can empower others to embark on similar journeys.
Throughout history, music has transcended the barriers of culture, language, and prejudice, serving as a powerful transformative force in promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion. WIN’s EDI Spotlight is a testament to this, showcasing the dozens of initiatives created or actively supported by our members across the globe. Each aims to remove systemic barriers in the music industry and work towards a more inclusive sector.
The EDI Spotlight features initiatives addressing a range of social issues, including gender equality, diversity, LGBTQ+ rights, anti-racism, First Nations, access to healthcare, mental health, and disability. This compilation from the global independent community is a dynamic resource that will be updated as new developments emerge.
Music has the remarkable ability to unite people from diverse backgrounds through understanding and empathy. The commitment to fostering a more diverse music ecosystem is not just a goal but a guiding principle for the global independent community. The initiatives featured in this EDI Spotlight demonstrate the profound impact that collective action and creative endeavors can have in promoting a more equitable and inclusive music industry.

IMICHILE leads projects to promote diversity and inclusion in the music sector, such as “El Águila y el Cóndor” to integrate first nations into the industry’s value chains and “Compromiso Morado” to tackle gender imbalances. Collaboration with WIN and the associations that make up the LatAm Network is key to extending these initiatives to the rest of Latin America.
